Dr. Galindo-Villegas currently serves as a PI researcher at Nord University, where his primary focus lies on developmental immunity in vertebrates, mainly modeled in fish, and exploring their intricate relationships with microorganisms. He has actively contributed in various capacities, demonstrating a comprehensive engagement in academic and administrative domains. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Aquaculture, Elsevier and the President of International Society of Fish and Shellfish Immunology.

Aquaculture has emerged as a crucial solution to sustainably meet the increasing demand for fish protein, given its low carbon footprint and substantial growth potential. Despite its rapid expansion, fish only accounts for 17% of all protein sources produced for human consumption, highlighting the need for sustainable aquaculture practices. However, the rapid expansion of aquaculture has raised environmental concerns, including disease outbreaks and threats to industry sustainability.Infectious diseases pose a significant obstacle to sustainable aquaculture development globally, resulting in substantial economic losses and environmental impacts. Addressing these challenges requires urgent sustainable disease control strategies that minimize financial losses and preserve biodiversity, ecosystem balance, and human well-being.
